Sarah's Top Ten List

Since it is now the month of December I decided to make a list of my Ten favorite things about the most wonderful time of the year (if you just read that and didn't want to sing it in an Amy Grant voice... you must not be a Hendrickson) here we go......

10. the snow! i hate snow when its blowing at me, and when i'm driving, and when its any other month! by january 2nd it should be gone! but in December I love it!
9. the decorations in the malls, stores, streets, work and most of all Home! who could forget Bob and Flo, superman ornament, the chocolate bear i thought i made in pre school, the slightly demented santa and mrs. clause rachel and andy made... 1 of santa's eyes is dramatically smaller then the other... its freaky!
8. the music! rachel just made a fantastic christmas mixed cd (yes mariah carey is on it) fa ra ra ra ra, ra ra, ra, ra! and of course... OJ Simpson... NOT A JEW! Brother Chapin singing "Let Him In" and now Ella dancing to all the Christmas songs we sing!!
7. its the only time of year its appropriate to ask... So how much weight have you gained?and by saying a larger number... people are impressed!
6. baked goods! i love christmas treats. one year i remember only eating peanut brittle all day! rachel's soda cracker toffee, mama's fudge, egg nog and holiday oreos!
5. love & service! i love that people come together and want to give to the people around them!
4. shopping! its fun shopping for other people! yes the mall can be a little crazy but when your mom has a handicap sticker... parking no problem! also no problem if you have p diddy... socks and XL long sleeved polo shirts!
3. Christmas movies! yes mom that includes "Its a Wonderful Life" some of my other favs are... Santa Baby, Christmas Story, ELF, Home Alone, Mr Kruger's Christmas,(that one was for mom so i'd be her favorite) and of course Smokey Mountain Christmas
2. Christmas Eve Traditions! chicken nuggets, white elephant gifts, becca waking us up really early, Rachel and i sharing a bed, mom's 250 christmas tins full of goodies, dad reading Luke II, cheese ball, games, games, games, veggie tray, my amazing poems! and so so so much fun its my favorite night of the year!
1. Celebrating the Savior! for his life, and all that he has done for the world!!

Christmas is just around the corner!! Enjoy December! I'm excited to spend the holidays with the people I love!! I'll miss Andy and Stafany who'll be in the "big city" but i'm sure their first Christmas together will be very fun, special and memoriable! Love you all.... see ya soon!
and remember....
He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!

I am guessing this is the first time Mariah Carey, Adam Sandler and Rich Chapin have been on the same CD, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the Dolly shout out, it means a lot to both of us. But what about Babes in Toyland (I come from C-I-N-C-I-N....).

Sarah did you mean to rank veggie tray above soda cracker toffee (I would not make that mistake). You are also more grateful for mom's lack of knee caps than love, weird.

Did you not make the chocolate bear in pre school?

i just laughed out loud to all your comments... so i have a few corrections to make
1. mariah carey and adam sandler are on the same cd but since rachel doesn't have a recording of him he didn't make it this year. he is simply on the list for christmas music
2. i can't believe i forgot babes in toyland... nuts!
3. but the list within the list is not ranked. so although veggie trays are amazing, soda cracker toffee is better. love is above mom's lack of knee caps... thanks

4. no i didn't make that bear, i have no idea why i thought i did??? or why i thought it was chocolate.. its wood????

I loved the shout out to chicken nuggets. Nothing says Christmas Eve to me like Chicken nuggets and Rachel farting in Sarah's face.

Well, I loved the list and then laughed out loud at Andy's comments (I will respond to Andy's thoughts on LeBron James, from is blog, later) I too, was excited about Mariah, Adam and Rich...too bad he has not been recorded...but maybe we could get Michael Barber to sing about Rich singing...Dad and I have already watched "A Christmas Carol", going to watch "Mr Kruger" and "It's a wonderful life" next week while I am recovering from the hand surgery...which is this Friday by the way...I am glad that everyone enjoys my handicap parking pass...by the way, I just learned from a co-worker that if we park at a parking meter...I do not have to pay with handicap sticker...I guess they figure I am already handicapped so why should I have to pay the city to shop...this could open a whole new world for dad...I love Christmas...our house is already decorated and the lights are up outside...I listen to Amy Grant on the way to work so I really knew what Sarah was going for...I too love snow...but ONLY in December on the roads...everywhere else can have as much snow as is possible to help with global warming...my shout out to Al Gore (do not tell Kierstin Clements I gave Al a shout out) I was getting out my Christmas movies in anticipation of watching them and cannot find where we put "White Christmas", "Christmas in Conneticut" or "Holiday Inn"...I did find both "Babes Toyland"...must keep searching...I also love "Elf" and think that should be purchased on line after the holidays...The food, ah the food, I love the cookies, Rachel's toffee, the cookies, Sarah's creations and Christmas Eve...heads up Ashton, we do not have any more of Andy's canned salmon to mix with cream cheese...but we will have other things yummy...Back to the music...I think if you have Bing, Amy, the Beach Boys, InSync and the MOTabs your music needs have been met...I am excited to see Christmas this year through Ella's eyes...that is always fun with little ones...but I will really miss our little New Yorkers...thinking back to last year when they got engaged and us sitting in the dark as Stefany got a clue from our house...what a great day...I have a new nativity this year from Andy and Stefany and it is at the Creche festival with some of our others...I am so grateful for the birth of Our Saviour...what a wonderful gift. I love you all very much and my I have rambled on and on...

Wait, I know nothing of Sarah "Tooting" in Rachel's face...and do we say "F#%*?

sarah jean said...

just to clarify... rachel broke wind on my head... not the other way around. and we for sure need to get that salmon stuff. i forgot how much i loved that.

Becca and Ashton said...

whats funny is that mom assumed that sarah was the farter not rachel

NCAA2PROSPORTS said...

Just to clarify. Mom F#%* does not mean Fart.

Rachel said...

Yeah, I have to second mom putting f*** and meaning fart but that is definatley not what it means. Thanks for remembering that moment for sure, though.

I just watched White Christmas so I would like to add that. I also love ABC family Christmas movies like Holiday in Handcuffs with Mario Lopez and Melissa Joan Hart.

And playing the specific game of pictionary (Andy's personal favorite). And I have made copies of the CD for all to enjoy. Rich Chapin is not on it this year, but maybe next year.

I have to say, finding out that we don't have to pay for parking downtown with the disability parking pass is quite a fine Christmas gift. You know how much I love to pay to park.

DAD

Well, I am back...my hand is still in bandages but they come off tomorrow. I will have the sutures in until 12/18, which means I cannot do the dishes until then and Dad is being a good sport about it. I have not taken any pain pills today and I am feeling pretty good...even typing and it feels better than before because my finger can bend...Yeah.

By the way, Today is Pearl Harbor Day...take a moment to thank all of those who lost their lives...

I guess it is better to just say fart than have people think I am thinking about any other "F" word...

I am excited for Christmas...sorry that Andy and Stefany will not be with us but that we will be all together on the cruise...except for Ella...but do not get me started on that...like I mentioned before I cannot find all of my Christmas movies...Dad put them somewhere which means I will never see them again. I am in the mood for "White Christmas" and "Holiday Inn" not to mention "Christmas in Conneticut"...at least I have "Mr Kruger", "It's a Wonderful Life" and "A Christmas Carol"...I have even read " A Christmas Carol" this year...Dickens was an amazing writer...what a great story...anyhoo I digress...I love all of our favorite memories and fun times...we are truly blessed...

Also, I am sorry, that I assumed that Sarah farted on Rachel...that was wrong on my part...I just do not remember that whole thing at all.

Our ward Christmas party is next Saturday. Dad is playing Santa...he tried on the suit and a pillow was need to fill him out...he is so thin now. I will whiten his eye brows and make his cheeks nice and rosey and he will be great...he has been practicing his "Ho-ho-hos"...too bad Ella is not here...but I do not think she would appreciate her grandpa dressed up as Santa...just judging that from the pictures emailed to us yesterday. Won't dad be a great santa, though?

well, I must say that actually my hand is now hurting so time to sign off...

Oh and by the way, I do have both versions of Babes in Toyland to watch...I should say, 2 of the 3 versions since Laurel and Hardy made a movie of it in the 40's...

Andy, no Sarah you did not make that bear and it is not chocolate. I do not know where we even got it.

GRANDMA DENISE said...

I just read my note...the last paragraph is not Andy, Sarah...

but it should read "And, no Sarah..."

sorry, my hand is not perfect.

Oh I thought I made the chocolate bear made of wood.
